Our story

“I took charge of my own and my babies' gut health, because I knew it was fundamental for their lifelong health.”

Between her two kids, founder and CEO of Tiny Health, Cheryl Sew Hoy, had two radically different birth experiences.

One presented breech and was born by C-section. Whereas the younger sibling was born at home and with the support of a midwife. Guess which baby battled eczema and food allergies?

In spite of exclusive breastfeeding and homemade kefir, Cheryl’s daughter - her first baby - had mild eczema and needed to work through a sesame allergy after starting solids.

As it turns out, this isn’t a coincidence. At birth, a baby is seeded with microbes from the immediate environment, which might mean hospital equipment or a mother’s vaginal canal, gut or skin. Which microbes first take up residence in the baby’s gut matters. It affects everything from digestion and immune development to metabolic health and brain development. For the baby’s lifelong health.

Knowing this, Cheryl wished there was a gut test tailored specifically for babies.

This is because a baby’s gut goes through unique developmental phases. The problem was that every gut test on the market was designed for adults. Not babies.

And with that, Tiny Health was born.
Cheryl Family
The first microbiome test uniquely designed for mom and baby.
Working alongside top microbiologists, established researchers in academia, scientists and healthcare professionals, Cheryl created an easy at-home microbiome test kit that gives parents a blueprint to their baby’s health.

In addition to testing the gut microbiome of both mother and baby, Cheryl envisioned a safe network of education and support. A platform of actionable insights that goes beyond testing and gives parents tools to nurture the first 1,000 days of their baby’s microbiome, which begin at conception.

About Us

Our mission is to improve health outcomes of future generations through evidence-based insights

Tiny Health is the first research-backed platform to profile a baby’s microbes during their first 1,000 days, which begin at conception. This includes the mother’s microbiome within 9 months of pregnancy and the baby’s microbiome within their first two years. Catching patterns of gut dysbiosis unique to pregnancy and infancy can give parents the opportunity to protect against immune-mediated diseases that are programmed during this window of development. Research shows that these imbalances may lead to chronic conditions such as eczema, food allergies, asthma, type I diabetes, and obesity later in life.

Using at-home test kits, next generation sequencing, a proprietary knowledge base, and AI technology, Tiny Health provides key insights during this critical period as the microbiome rapidly takes shape and sets the trajectory for lifelong health. This helps us to generate personalized, actionable recommendations and early interventions that give each baby the best possible start in life.
