“My son’s eczema and gas issues resolved completely”

“Tiny Health has been a wonderful resource for our family. My son was born via c section and had very poor gut health at his initial test. He suffered from mild eczema and bad gas. After a month on the recommended probiotic from the team at Tiny Health both issues resolved completely and at his follow up gut tests 2 month later his gut biome had improved immensely. We are so glad to have this resource to help set up our son for the healthiest life he can have.”

"We were simply interested in our baby's microbiome but then..."

Initially we were simply interested in the microbiome of our baby, and he turned out to have low levels of bifidobacteria. We found that a few days of a recommended probiotic already solved that problem! Then things got more serious. At 6 months old he was hospitalized with severe pneumoniae, and needed the most extreme antibiotics to save his life. It took a while but after months of following Tiny Health's advice, no trace of potentially antibiotic-resistant bacteria are left!

"Tiny Health is my greatest tip for expectant parents"

"As a mom to a child with allergies, I am grateful for these actionable suggestions to strengthen her microbiome. I only wish I had found it when I was pregnant: to identify and address my own low bifidobacterium levels, help me find strategies to navigate the use of cleaning products during COVID, and take restorative steps after her early antibiotic exposure."

"SO glad that I found Tiny Health, I only wish I had found them sooner!"

"I've worked with a functional medicine practitioner for years so I know how insanely important our gut health is, and I feel so great knowing that I'm taking steps now to ensure that my daughter's gut is as strong as it can be as she grows! I want to do everything I can to help her develop a strong immune system and Tiny Health has made that possible. The detailed action plan from her 7-day gut microbiome testing results made it so easy to find the right probiotic for her needs."

"Within days we saw a huge improvement in our baby's fussiness"

"I was at a loss when my 1+ month old son was suffering from colic and gas. It caused a lot of distress and sleepless nights. We decided to give Tiny Health a try because we suspected his microbiome might not be so good. They recommended that we get our baby on probiotics and within days we saw a huge improvement in his fussiness (he was sleeping better and wasn't crying as much!). We can't wait to do another sample when our baby is a bit older so we can see how his gut is performing."

“We were able to identify and take action on his condition early on”

“As a first-time mom, I didn’t realize the impact my diet during pregnancy could have on my baby’s microbiome.  Thanks to Tiny Healthy I was able to adjust my diet and take the necessary steps to ensure my baby’s health. After he was born, I tested him and followed Tiny Health’s recommendations.  After 4 months, we retook the test and saw a drastic improvement. We were able to take the proper preventative steps to make his immune system stronger.  We are so thankful!”

"Tiny Health provided me with clear data to support gut health"

"Tiny Health has really gone above and beyond in providing helpful and reassuring data from my vaginal and my baby’s gut test. With this pregnancy, I worked really hard on my gut health and I had no idea how much it affected the baby’s gut. If you are looking for the root cause of any issue or how to improve baby’s gut, Tiny Health's gut tests will lead you to those answers.

The best microbiome test for pregnancy

Tiny Health was founded by a mom who wanted to test her baby’s gut trajectory after her C-section and couldn’t find a straight answer in the market. Our test is the first to measure what matters most to a healthy baby. Other microbiome tests use “adult reference ranges,” or outdated technology that leads to incorrect conclusions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does testing work? What do I have to do?

We use a stool test collected with a lab-certified sampling swab from soiled tissue paper.

The process is simple and unlike other tests on the market, Tiny Health doesn't require gloves, a spoon-like collection device, or that you handle stool at all, other than on a regular tissue paper.

The sample is then stored in the included container and zippered back and mailed back to us on the prepaid envelope included with your kit.

How solid is the science? I’ve heard the field is pretty new.

Microbiome health as a field is relatively new compared to medicine in general. However, human microbiome research has grown over the past 10 years and rose exponentially in the past five years as sequencing technology became more affordable.

There are now more researchers looking closely at how the microbiome is related to health and disease. When it comes to the baby microbiome and associations with health or disease, some very clear patterns have emerged. We pull data and reference high-quality research that is reproducible and gives consistent results. This way, you can be confident in the information that we share.

Should I take a gut and vaginal health test during pregnancy?

While many expectant mothers are encouraged to take a prenatal vitamin and DHA during pregnancy, less is often said about gut and vaginal health.

But as it turns out, the microbes you live with - on your skin and in your body - have a substantial impact on your baby’s development during pregnancy and later during a baby’s first two years.

This window of time is commonly referred to as a baby’s first 1,000 days.

In addition to important vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids, we now know that optimal immune and brain development takes place with the help of beneficial microbes that a baby inherits from their mother.

The timing of your Tiny Health test does matter. We recommend that you test in the first trimester and again in the third trimester of your pregnancy.

Does my microbiome affect my fertility or preterm birth?

Yes, the vaginal microbiome is important for both fertility and to avoid the preterm rupture of membranes and birth.

Studies comparing women who delivered preterm against women who delivered at term show some changes in the microbiome that can be related to preterm birth or to the early rupture of fetal membranes.

Women who deliver preterm usually have lower levels of protective Lactobacillus and higher levels of potentially pathogenic bacteria frequently associated with bacterial vaginosis.

High levels of Lactobacillus crispatus at 16 weeks of pregnancy have been found to protect against preterm birth. On the other hand, a significantly high percentage of women who deliver preterm have high levels of Lactobacillus iners.

My pediatrician said they’d never heard of the microbiome before. Why should I take a test?

Conventional medical practitioners don’t get training for microbiome health and as such, are not always familiar with the latest research and recommendations in this field of medicine.

However, our tests are developed by a team of leading pediatric scientists and physicians who are on the cutting edge of this impactful field.

Often, it’s up to your doctor to keep up on the latest research and most don’t have the time. In addition to this, it can take 10 - 15 years for academic research to be put into medical practice. So it’s possible that your doctor hasn’t heard about the gut microbiome.

But that doesn’t mean that it’s something to wait on.

Especially during pregnancy and the first few years of life.Recent studies show just how important the microbiome is to your baby’s immune development. You can use microbiome testing to make sure your baby has bacteria that protect health.

Is this just something else to be anxious about during my kid's childhood?

Not at all. Unlike DNA testing, conditions associated with the microbiome are reversible and risks can be reduced by taking preventative measures. Instead of just being worried about it, you can take the recommended actions and get some well-deserved peace of mind.
